Late Roman Large Chip Carved Buckle
This beautifully made wide late roman buckle has got elaborate
decorations in chip carved
ornamentation. The D-shaped buckle fitting is
also richly ornamented with animal head terminals.
The back edge is
decoratively shaped as mythical creatures that are interpreted as "sea
lions". The fully
functional reconstruction is based freely on an
original find from Enns / Austria, the ancient city of Lauriacum.
It is dated to the late 4th century AD.
The length of the fitting is about 11.5 cm, the width 7.2 cm.
It is
attached to the belt leather in an authentic way with rivets that are
included in the delivery.
